The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, supported King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) in organizing “Wellness for Healthy Aging through Research and Innovation.” The event was opened by Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Executive Director of NRCT, and Mr. Phadet Nuipree, President of the Uthai Thani Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO), with welcome remarks by Mr. Niwat Phatanant (Vice President, Uthai Thani PAO) and a project report by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anak Khantachawana (Project Director, KMUTT), joined by NRCT experts, subdistrict health personnel, and village health volunteers.
NRCT Strategic Direction: Dr. Wiparat highlighted NRCT’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for older adults by integrating ready-to-use research, technology, and innovation with local healthcare workflows, positioning Uthai Thani as a pilot province for proactive community health screening.
Local Perspective: Mr. Niwat noted the steady rise in the province’s elderly population across urban and rural areas, underscoring the goal of enabling older adults to remain healthy and self-reliant while equipping village health volunteers and building a provincial health database focused on prevention.
Project Core: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anak explained that as Thailand transitions into a complete aged society, falls, osteoporosis, and loss of daily independence are critical challenges. The initiative deploys science and technology alongside local agencies to deliver community-based fall risk screening, preliminary osteoporosis assessment, personalized rehabilitation programs, and targeted nutrition.
Sessions included “Fall Risk Assessment and Personalized Rehabilitation Design for the Elderly” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anak Khantachawana, “Prototype Osteoporosis Risk Screening and Elderly Nutrition Development” by Prof. Dr. Nathdanai Harnkarnsujarit (Kasetsart University) and the SmartMED Group team, “Comprehensive Elderly Health Assessment and Promotion Program” by Assoc.
